Cable Chick Australia was launched in July 2006 to take advantage of the ever increasing demand for high definition audio and video cables for home entertainment use.

Rocket Retail was involved with designing the Cable Chick mascot in consultation with the client, and its been a huge success. Name recognition and recall are very high, with an analysis of the search engine statistics within the Rocket Retail admin area revealing many people typing ‘Cable Chick’ into Google to find the site. This is an excellent sign that word of mouth and brand recall are working for the client.

The Cable Chick site has been an outstanding partnership between the client and Rocket Retail, with each ‘doing their own bit’ to ensure its success. While Rocket Retail focused on crafting the website to in accordance with the clients wishes, the client was investing his time into taking new photos of every cable on the site.

Often, the difference between a good ecommerce store and an outstanding one is the quality and appropriateness of the photos. Too often, ecommerce sites have poor or grainy photos, or ugly photos with awful or unappealing backgrounds.

Clicking on a product within this site reveals professional quality photos that can be clicked on to enlarge. The drop shadow on the photos even matches the Cable Chick logo, a nice touch that ties everything together and instils confidence in the visitor that this is a premium site, offering premium quality products.

This is a site I am particularly proud of, as it stands head and shoulders above all other computer game retail ecommerce sites in Australia in terms of its overall appeal, depth of product information and fitness for purpose. This was also a client that we developed the entire naming, logo and branding concepts with from the outset, which certainly helped to achieve a cohesive image.

Again, this was a genre that is traditionally very competitive on the internet in terms of keyword searching. The Rocket Retail technology allowed each individual product page to appear as a static HTML file which is readily spidered by search engines like Google. This has meant that when shoppers type in a specific game title, Replay Games appears in many cases as the number one position.

In addition to the search engine friendliness of the products, the customer also leveraged the built-in affiliate program with great success to encourage other sites to refer customers for a small fixed percentage of sales.

When Rocket Retail released the checkout options feature to Femplay, add-on sales at the checkout increased significantly. This feature alone increased profits by a margin of $1500 per month according to the owner. Rocket Retail is constantly creating and releasing new marketing tools and refinements to the system to ensure continual sales growth for its clients. Additionally, we constructed a Sydney delivery suburbs category on the left hand side where the client could add the specfic locations of the florists that would be used to prepare and ship the flowers. Not only does this add a local touch to the site, but it seeds the site with these geographic locations so when a prospect searches for flowers in their local area, Flowers Sydney is much more likely to appear in search engine results.

Hotpos Australia was an intiative of Darryl Sullivan, a POS specialist consultant based in Brisbane. Darryl came to Rocket Retail with the hope of establishing an online store that would appeal to anybody wanting to purchase new POS equipment, such as bar code scanners, tills and other hardware, all at discount prices.

This was the second store that Darryl had launched using Rocket Retail, having also been successful with Xtremeherbs.com.au - an online specialty herbs retailer. So although he was familiar with Rocket Retail, he wasnt totally sure about the marketing angle for the new POS hardware venture. After much discussion with us about a suitable website name, we suggested the name 'Hotpos' because it was short, punchy and gave the impression of bargain pricing. So Hotpos was born, and the site was fully live within several weeks of the go ahead.

Darryl has been very happy with the outcome of the site, which has almost overnight created a new revenue stream for the business, and introduced him to many new prospective clients for his consulting services.

The drop shipping feature has enabled Hotpos to offer a wide range of products from various suppliers, without keeping every single product in stock. Rocket Retail automatically orders products from suppliers as orders are placed on his site. For more popular items, these are kept in his warehouse and available for same day shipping.

Growth in sales for the store has been steady and incremental, and this is expected to increase further as popular search engines spider his products - many of which prospects will be searching for directly in order to find the lowest prices online.

Darryl is now launching his third Rocket Retail store in New Zealand, Hotpos.co.nz. He hopes to emulate the success of the Australian store using the same formula.

Baby Boots Australia is classic example of a successful online retail store in a mainstream market. Focusing specifically on baby footwear, Baby Boots has in a relatively short period of time forged a niche in the highly competitive baby merchandise industry.

With a low cost and simple to understand shipping system, customers have responded enormously well to the fast delivery and friendly customer service. With most orders shipped same day, customers are notified by email during each stage of the order/delivery process. In the highly competitive online market of retailing flash memory cards for devices such as digital cameras and mobile phones, we knew from the outset that this site had to capture the attention of the visitor within a few milliseconds. We wanted to convey 'bargain basement', while at the same time engendering the utmost confidence in the brand. We started with discussions about the website URL.

Initially the client wanted to include various keyword terms associated with flash memory cards in the URL, but we recommended against this generic branding strategy and came up with the alliteration of 'Cheap Chips' and also to futureproof the site to sell other types of memory devices, as research also indicated that flash cards would be less popular in years to come.

During our first onsite client design meeting, I suggested the 'buy colour' combination of Red and Yellow would be a good choice. This was quickly adopted by the client, and we then moved on to consider the overall navigational and content requirements. Essentially, these were mostly standard and included all the popular pages that we routinely include in each implementation such as price list, about page, shipping information, terms and conditions etc. So no surprises there, and we were able to establish that absolutely no extra custom development would be required (which is normally the case for most of our clients).

To further emphasise the discount concept, and hook the buyer we designed several mast hot buttons that appear on each page:
This was recommended after we conducted some preliminary research into competitors and discovered that none were offering same day shipping, and none had a lowest price guaranteed. As both these logos appear on each page, the viewer is constantly reminded of the value aspect and encouraged to purchase on the spot.

This was a standard implementation of Rocket Retail, with no extra costs for the client notwithstanding about $300 to design the Cheap Chips logo. Every other cost was included in the total package as detailed in the pricing and plans section.

Xtremeherbs.com is another Rocket Retail store launched by the owner of Xtremeherbs.com.au, to break into the competitive US market. In fact, Xtremeherbs.com is based in Brisbane, Australia but ships internationally. In order to encourage visitors in countries like the USA to place orders, this site uses the WorldPay payment system to quote prices in US dollars, right through to the payment page. This is supported 'out of the box' with Rocket Retail, as is PayPal, Directone and other major Australian ecommerce payment gateways.

Xtreme Herbs was established in 2003, with their warehouse based in Brisbane. Their philosophy was to offer 'hard to find' and exotic herbs direct to the consumer, at wholesale prices.

These include herbs and vitamins for general health in addition to mood enhancers and stimulants containing the likes of caffeine, guarana and kava. As these types of products are widely searched on the internet, there existed a unique opportunity to take advantage of the search engine friendliness of the URL's utilised in the Rocket Retail eCommerce system. This meant that customers searching for specific herbs can often find Xtreme Herb's products in the first few pages of Google results and on NineMSN. Xtreme Herbs continues to be 'xtremely' successful and was recently featured in May 2006 on Channel Nines Footy Show where members of the cast sampled some of the Kava products!
